PayJunction is currently seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented director of human resources to join our growing organization. Here at PayJunction, we have a roll-up-your-sleeves and get-it-done mentality. This position will lead and directly participate in all facets of human resources including, but not limited to: benefit administration, employment law, and all aspects of the employee life cycle. The ideal candidate will be extremely tech savvy, can speak to our product, understand our engineering culture, see the value of using Confluence work tools, and is comfortable with the pace and structure of a SaaS organization.
This position is located on site in our Santa Barbara, California offices.
Areas of Responsibility
EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT AND RETENTION
- Build our company culture to its fullest potential in partnership with our team.
- Organize and oversee the annual review process.
- Administer company benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, Cobra).
- Share innovative strategies for human resources training and development.
- Champion an environment of equality, diversity and empowerment.
- Rollout and drive new initiatives (i.e., automation of processes, company philanthropy program).
LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state (California) and local laws and regulations related to human resources.
- Develop appropriate policies and programs for employee relations, such as creating a harassment-free environment, preventing sexual harassment and engaging employees.
- Administer the workers' compensation program as well as investigate, track and manage all open claims.
- Manage all aspects of FMLA and ADA.
- Lead investigations into discrimination, harassment or bullying complaints.
- Maintain accurate personnel, human resources, and I-9 files compliant with federal and state regulations.
- Keep employee manual and internal intranet up to date with latest policies, procedures and news.
- Attend legal and other seminars to stay current on applicable laws.
- Process immigration issues with the help of outside counsel.
- Oversee or administer all onboarding of new hires.
- Process and own all terminations and exit interviews.
- Provide technical expertise, training and mentoring of human resources staff.
- Provide human resources consultation and counseling support to managers and employees consistent with legal considerations and company ethos.
- Ensure fair and consistent application of company policies and practices.
- Provide transparent and consistent communication throughout the company.
- Build and administer safety programs.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in a human resources leadership role, including direct experience in the following:
- Strategic initiatives
- Management responsibilities
- Recruitment strategy
- Project management
- Training and development
- Culture and organization development as well as change management
- Employee engagement and staff relations
- Policy development and guidance
- Employment law
- Performance management
- Compensation and benefits development
- Conflict management that includes influencing, collaborating, facilitating and negotiating
- Safety programs (including workers' compensation)
- Bachelor's degree required; preferably in business, management or human resources.
- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
- Experience in a SaaS environment with over 100 employees preferred.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines including compensation practices, employee relations, performance management, federal and state (California) employment laws.
- Excellent consulting and coaching skills.
- Proven success managing high-volume human resources processes.
- Strong conflict management, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Effective management of conflicting priorities in a high-volume work environment.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Tech savviness and ability to use and learn all PayJunction tools, including Atlassian Confluence suite - JIRA, Wiki.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions.
