Financial Controller

As financial controller, you will be the unifying force behind PayJunction's financial strategy and execution. You will be responsible for overseeing and directing all finance management and accounting related functions for PayJunction. This role is broad, hands-on, challenging and highly rewarding for the successful individual. The best candidates will be able to automate much of the bookkeeping and traditional accounting work, and also analyze the company's finances through a strategic lens. We are looking for an individual who can provide direction and advise on best practices as we continue to grow our business. This is an important and strategic role within the company and our expectations are equally high.  

This is a full-time, in house position at our headquarters in Santa Barbara, CA.


  • Direct and coordinate budgeting activities, including annual budget formulation.
  • Hold monthly budget meetings with department heads to review actual to budget variances and update forecasts as as needed on a quarterly basis.
  • Fixed asset tracking to include: annual audit of fixed assets and proper recording of such assets, proper analysis of all capital expenditure requests.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory, federal, multi-state and local sales and use tax reporting and requirements.
  • Preparation of all periodic financial statements and coordination of all audit activity, including SOC 1 external audits.  
  • Identify, assess, select, and oversee the transition to new accounting software from current system.  
  • Create and maintain all policies and procedures related to the control of company assets and the proper completion of financial transactions, including but not limited to a purchase requisition process.
  • Leverage strengths of current finance team and create training programs for team members and department growth. 

Skills and Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively interface with different departments within the company.
  • Managing A/P, A/R, general ledger, payroll and multi-state tax issues.
  • Must demonstrate unwavering critical thinking and analytical approach.
  • Must be cautious and risk-aware with critical thinking skills to accurately identify risk scenarios.
  • Experience with selecting and overseeing software implementations.
  • Experience with Quickbooks required; others a plus Sage Intacct / Acumatica
  • Bachelors degree and CPA; MBA highly desirable
  • Experience in the financial services, payment processing or computer software industries
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in accounting
